About Dan

Dan Paley is an author of books for children. They Hold the Line: Wildfires, Wildlands, and the Firefighters Who Brave Them (Chronicle Books) was named a 2023 New York Public Library Best Book. Love is Hard Work: The Art and Heart of Corita Kent is forthcoming from Candlewick Press. He also contributed an essay to New Rules Next Week: Corita Kent's Legacy through the Eyes of Twenty Artists and Writers (Chronicle Books.) Dan’s writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Ranger Rick, Ladybug, the Wall Street Journal, Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Science Writer, and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, among other publications. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University science writing program. Dan is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the National Association of Science Writers (NASW), and a founding board member of Readers to Dreamers. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, he now lives in Southern California.
