School Visits

Dan visits schools across the country and wants to visit yours! (It’s the best part of being an author.)

Dan speaks to both children and adults on a variety of topics related to writing, the creative life, and his books.

Visits are available both in-person and virtually. All presentations are interactive, fun, and educational.

Presentations

All About Wildland Firefighters

Dan uses They Hold the Line to discuss wildfire in our landscape, how wildland firefighters fight fire, and the story behind the making of this book.

30-45 minutes, 1st grade and up

Stories All Around Us

Dan tells the story of how he wrote Luigi and the Barefoot Races, which was inspired by his childhood neighborhood and friends. Readers will want to race back to class to write stories about their lives, too.

Seeing the Other

Dan uses Rubio and Julienne, A Sweet and Cheesy Tale to explore how reaching out to others can bridge differences among people.

30-45 minutes, K - 5

The Creative Life

Dan discusses the life of a creative person and how people can lead creative lives, whether they want to write or paint or make music. For this presentation, suitable for children and adults, Dan draws on work by some of his favorite creators, including Corita Kent.

30-45 minutes, all ages

Dan is currently scheduling for the 2023-24 school year. Get in touch below!
